I have been teaching myself to splice braided rope. I am getting fairly proficient at the eye splice and would now like to join 2 ropes together to form a bridle for my dink. I have done the eye with snaps on 2 ropes, 1 much long than the other. Does anyone have directions on how to slice the short rope into the long rope to form a bridle? checked the net and found only for twisted strand rope. easy enough, but looking to expand my meager talents.

Thanks,
Mike

just an idea

why not just make a huge eye splice, then cut it right in the middle to give you two equal length lines for your bridle. Then just heat seal the ends or whip them and use a figure eight knot. To make the huge eye splice use my "magic splicing tool" that you can get by searching right here. You will love this tool regardless of what you are using now. Best tool at the best price (free)

Is there an easier way?

Jibes, this magic tool sounds very interesting. I have just managed my second splice using a set of fids, and it's not a bad job even if I do say so myself. But if there is an easier way I would love to know about it.:D And thanks for that link Chuck. A wholelotta useul information there!

Thanks all, i have been on the Samson site, but didn't notice the tuck-bury splice which will definitely do the trick.

Let me say what I think you want and you can tell me if I have it right. You would like to splice a short (2-3 feet) length of line to a long (10-25) feet piece of line in order to form an assembly with a secure loop at the middle and two free ends that you may secure to a tow? Why not middle a piece of line and clove hitch it to your towing bit and get on with life?

The guy that sold you your fids also works on the sidewalk in new york selling rolex watches for 15 bucks. Buy one of my tools (free) by making it yourself. Here's how I developed it. I bought a set of fids with the pusher and so forth from samson or someone, it was a super pain in the ...neck. I then saw an add for a super splicing tool, so I bought that. It was fantastic, after three splices it broke where the wire was brazed to the body. I then contemplated how to fix it and realized I could just take a coat hangar and make the same thing for free. I have used the coat hangar tool renamed Magic Splicing Tool ever since with the same great results. So folks, keep your money in your wallets. For smaller diameter line ( I was working with 5/8 for a Jordan series drogue) you can use any stiff wire to make a smaller version. Even seizing wire will work for very small lime. You just need to make sure there are no rough edges or burs to snag fibers and wreck your line.
