I am wondering what the purpose is of the type of bracket on the mast that is about 2 feet from the cabin top and on the aft side of the mast? Thanks

What kind of bracket

Can you be a little more specific for those of us that don't have a 31'er. Lots of stuff is similar across boats so I'm guessing that this is right under the gooseneck. If your boom is mounted on a track this could be the downhaul OR it could be a boom vang attachment point but 2' sounds kinda high for this. Bill Roosa

Mounting bracket

There's a lot of things you could mount there, but I have always assumed that it is intended as a small winch mounting plate in case you want to add a winch for the outhaul or reefing lines, or even a cunningham. I haven't done this but I've been thinking about it. It would make adjusting the outhaul a lot easier. Tom Madura s/v Good Vices p.s. I also use it as an attachment point for the lifting line when I take the mast down each winter.
