Yikes, adding 450 pounds of weight to any sailboat that will carry it, will make a difference in performance.

Within limits. Our vessel wouldn't even register an additional 450# of weight, no matter where you put it. Our chain lockers alone have 2400# of chain in them. Then again, our gross weight is just shy of 80,000#...
