This could be a sign that the motor is on its way out. The enamel coating on the motor windings will melt when the motor gets too hot and will then draw more current moving forward. Hopefully a PO just put in the wrong size fuse. If you know the model of bow thruster, you can find out the current draw. Looking at the size of wiring going to the motor is also an excellent way to help determine fuse size.

Put in the largest fuse based on the wire's ampacity rating. Check the ABYC Ampacity tables to determine what size fuse that might be. For example, if you have 4 ga wire running outside of the engine compartment and it is rated at 105°C, then the max amps it can safely carry is 160. Install a fuse no bigger than 160a and you will be safe.

Is this something new or has it always been this way, at least in your experience.

It would be best to follow the advice in post #2 and find out why the fuses are blowing.
