Don, I am sailing a Catalina 22 and use an asymetrical spinaker, masthead rigged. We have had diffaculty keeping it filled and trimmed when the main is totally out on the same side as the spinaker when we aren't running dead downwind. I built a bow sprit this past winter that can be adjusted from 6 inches to 4 feet infront of the forestay, in 6 inch steps. What do you think would be the best setting for downwind, broad reach and beam reaching. I keep my rigging well adjusted and have covered all the bases in relation to that. Thanks, Ray

Spinaker

Ray: Actually, my bag is not spinakers. Most of the folks I work with with have trouble understanding the jib!! I rarely race in the spin class and only know enough about them to be dangerous. I never comment on things unless I'm 100% sure of what I'm talking about. On the other hand, there are a number of guys on this list that are very, very good with spinakers and hopefully they will chime in. The C22 list is a great place for this type of info. Also a friend of mine from Seattle (Skip Mersch), who has won more C22 events than I can count, would be another source I can refer you to him if all else fails.

Thanks Don & Mark

Don, The main unknown for me right now is how far forward can the spinaker head be extended forward from the mast and what that will do to the shape of the sail, and how to handle the effect of this. Mark, Yes I do have photos and spec's but I need to have my wife load them up to send by e-mail. If you will send your e address or contact me through this site I will forward them to you. The sprit mounts on the port side and clears the hatch and bow metalwork. It is very clean, strong and can be built for under $75. I hope to be in the water by mid April so that will answer my above question. I don't want to post the diagram or photo's on this site until I have tried it out. Ray
