Bow Sprit failure

I just had a failure of the bow sprit on my 1981 Catalina 27 TM. It seems that the bottom stay snapped and the wood split and the metal bent. Has anyone had this problem and is it an easy repair.

Bow Sprit

Happened on my 86 model. I was able to save the sprit, but a replacement is available from Catalina Direct. Any rigging shop can supply you with a new bobstay. I removed the SS plate and straightened it with a hydraulic press. Let me know if you need more details.
