I've got a 1977 C-30 Standard Rig w/o the bow sprit. I see that Catalina Direct has an add-on kit. I was wondering if anybody out there had any feedback on it Is it difficult to install? I'm particularly concerned about where the bob-stay attaches to the bow near the waterline. Did it help sailing performance? Thanks in advance. Allen s/v Drambuie C-30 Hull# 632

Bow sprit

It's always been my understanding that the bow sprit was specifically for the tall rig C30. It'll be interesting to see what others think. LaDonna

Available for both tall and std rig...

The factory would put the bowsprit on a standard rig C30 if the owner desired it. I have a tall rig with the bowsprit. I was warned by a number of sailors in the SF bay area that the tall rig plus the added sail area the bowsprit provides would be no good. The fact is, though that she sails well in even heavy weather conditions with a partially furled high footed 135. Some have suggested the bowsprit will move CE forward and neutralize some amount of weather helm. It is a good place to hang an anchor. Looks neat, too. Cons? When leaving your slip you will have to back out a litte further before swinging around if there is a piling on the end of the finger. As far as installing the sprit and stay, I would call the Catalina factory. No doubt they will give you exact demensions of the equipment needed and the placement of such. Probably will make it for you, too. Chris
