One of my winter projects this year will be to fit my boat with a bow roller. What make/model have you been successful in fitting to a Hunter 31? A Windline URM-1 looks like it will fit with minimal adaptation.

Garhauer.

Doug: Unfortunately Hunter is not going to be able to give you much info on this problem. If you can sketch up something for Garhauer, they can retro fit something that will fit on boat without too much ado. The best thing would be if you could remove your bow stem fitting and have someone make a custom piece that would accomodate a roller for both sides. Otherwise you should be able to use the existing holes in the stem fitting in a premade bow roller.

You could always cannibalize a bowsprit from a derelict boat. As for the roller itself, just buy a compatable poly roller from any auto parts store. It's the same stuff that goes on boat trailers.

Simpson-Lawrence KBR-20,

A few years back, I installed a Simpson-Lawrence KBR-20 anchor roller on the bow of my 1980 Hunter 30. I angled the roller to the left of the stem fitting and had to cut off the jib reefing hook on that side. I also had to move the chock slightly aft on that side as well. I used an aluminum backing plate held against the ceiling of the anchor locker and bolted the roller to it but with lots of caulking in and around the bolts. I attached a strong bungee cord to the eye strap in the locker and use it with a snap hook to keep the anchor in the roller (except in rough weather).
