I was gifted a #35 Manson Supreme anchor. I have a 1984 Pearson 303 with a small bow roller. Current setup is a Danforth (lunch hook) that is stored in a locker up on the bow. I do not have a windlass. Can anyone recommend a bow roller for this anchor? I realize the anchor might be overkill... however I would like to sleep at night. I contacted Quickline... they wanted $600+. Contaced Manson... no response.

1. There are only so many different bow rollers available. You can check them out at West Marine online or in their catalog. Garhauer I also think make rollers.

2. Check the Rocna website. They have many pictures of their anchors on different boats, mine included. Since the shapes are very similar, you can browse their picture file.

3. We kept our old OEM "toy" bow roller for our Rocna 10 (22#), and so did a friend with a heavier Rocna. See this with pictures: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,5336.0.html

4. Don't know what your physical conditions are, but many have hauled 35# anchors without windlasses for years. Maybe that's why their back go out!!! But someone posted, perhaps on that thread, that if you do it right, the only things you're pulling up are the weight of the chain and the anchor, since you should be directly above it when you weigh anchor. I deliberately stay with a 22# anchor 'cuz I sized my system for where I sail. See: http://c34.org/bbs/index.php/topic,4457.0.html, which also has some pictures.

Do you have a picture of your bow roller? Maybe you can modify it as I did mine. I simply cut larger stainless side plates, bolted them on to the existing side plates, and added a large roller meant for a trailer. Got it at Lowes I think. I made it long enough that my CQR 35# anchor shank does not extend over the anchor locker. I happen to now have a manual windlass in the locker but have brought it up by hand many times. And I have an all chain rode.

Yes... yes. Good to here from you too! It's funny... your away from this website for a couple of years, only to come back and see the usual sailors with their informative posts. Very nice indeed.

Thanks for your responses and photos... a picture is worth a thousand words for me! I shall dig into it more this spring when the cover gets removed and I can get the anchor up there.
