My neighbor has offered me a used bow rail since I lost mine in the last tropical stom (collided with the pier). The holes don't line up for the replacement rail so can I just drill new holes or do I need backing plates?

Always use backing plates......

You can also try Minneys surplus. They might have an exact replacment..

What boat do you have.

Tony: What boat do you have? The reason I ask is you can get one from TIQ (www.topsinquality.com). If it is an older smaller boat you may not want to spend the extra money. Check them out.

You Need 'em

Backing plates really make a difference in the load a rail can handle.
