Bow Leak

I recently have noticed water in the most forward comparment, the one in front of the sail locker. It is not accessible without drilling a large hole in the plywood V-berth cover. I discovered the leak after a long close haul sail in 5-7 foot waves on Lake Michigan. Water had leaked into the sail locker from that forward comparment. It is not coming from the main section of the anchor locker as there was no water on the wood box under the anchor locker overhead in the V-berth. I cleaned out the anchor locker and ran a lot of water through a hose under pressure and the water seeped in along the most forward point above that compartment. I noticed that the fiberglass in the forward part of the anchor locker, in the area where the stay and furler are attached is peeling a bit. (maybe from a previous owner's repair?). Any suggestions? I have owned the boat since 1998 and sailed in heavy water before and not noticed the problem.

Check the Latch

I am not familiar with your boat, but on our 84 H34, I found a leak where the pin goes into the hull to latch the anchor hatch, also the screws for the hinges were not sealed. You did not say the amount of water you had, but these two areas are worth checking.
