When you say patch the hole, I assume that you have the old style single bolt bow eye. If so it is highly recommended that it be replaced with the much sturdier U-Bolt bow eye that requires two holes, use the original hole and drill the second one either above or below it depending on where the bow eye will sit in reference to the trailer winch. Its better to pull up on the bow eye than down when the boat is fully on the trailer. I can promise you if you have the old style bow eye and don't replace it you will be in for a lot of misery and repairs.
