I remounted my bow cleats
Greetings, if you can beleive this, the PO had 'dock' cleats on the bow. I hunted around for some that had the same bolt pattern, which ended up being some stainless steel SeaRay cleats. I know, it's almost sacraligous to have put a powerboat part on a sailboat, but they worked and no one else can tell. I used some simple stainless steel backing plates, crawled up under the anchor locker from the vberth and it worked. The PO mounted them between the bulwark and anchor locker hatch, much like one of the photos in this thread shows. The chocks were already there, so it looks like it's factory made. Now, I plan on ripping out the sampson post and putting in a windlass, I think I can find one that will fit. The chore then is to put a chase way to lead the chain down with enough drop to pull everything down, and then make a weep hole down into the bilge or put in a bilge pump up there, not sure which. If you think the bow cleats won't hold in a storm, take the chain and shackle it around the mast, It that breaks, you're going to need to do a lot of work to every other part of the boat anyway, if not a complete disaster. Thanks, Renasci.
