Big blow pulled bolts from cleat. Must access space between underside of deck and upper side of headliner in v-berth to install backing plate and new bolts. What material is in the space between? Anyone with similar damage who has repaired? What steps were followed?

You'll probably get more replies if you post this over at the Seaward forum or the Seaward facebook page. Not sure how you can access that, if they're blind inside other than cutting a hole in the liner below it, unless there's a plate embedded in the cabin top. Not at my boat right now, but aren't they just thru bolted right through the liner with backup washers and nuts on the inside of the boat? Most of the other seaward deck fasteners are installed this way. When repairing, I would install a backing plate instead of washers. What type of bolts came loose?

Thanks for your thoughts. The bolts that let go are the four in the base of the cleat. One sheared, and the other three appear to be just pulled out - from only the fiberglass mounting ridge on the deck. I was able to track Nick Hake down, and he, too was somewhat puzzled - . No mounting plate in the v-berth head liner, so whatever was holding the bolts - hope it was a backing plate - is indeed blind and my only access will be to cut a hole in the head liner large enough to access with tools and hands. Going to drill through the existing, damaged holes with very small bit to determine length of new bolts needed. Pretty sure that the flimsy head liner is not strong enough to hold the backing plate and that affixing to underside of deck is the better choice. Will use both lock washers and nuts. Lucky to have several mates in my community who know more about this kind of general problem than I. Hake assured me there is no balsa or other "stuffing" between the deck and head liner and that any bow light wiring runs along the edge. Hoping to cut a hole which can be cosmetically acceptable.
Thanks again for reply.

There are various products or you can make something (Starboard, wood) to cover up a hole, would look much better.
