Bow chocks attachment

Hi all,

How are the bow chocks attached? Is there a metal backing plate inside the deck in that area? I am thinking about removing them and replacing with cleats, as I only have a samson post up there.

That Sampson post is very strong! I doubt seriously that mounting cleats in the place of chocks would be as strong. I also don't see what that would gain you? You can put 4 bow lines on the Sampson post. Why do you want cleats? I guess one good reason, after thinking about it, would be if you wanted to add a windlass...the post does indeed complicate that installation.
