I have a 1980 Hunter 27 that recently had some damage to the bow. The dock lines broke and the boat surged forward in the slip. The dock essentially "sanded" out an 8" 90 degree angle in the bow that went through the hull to the V-berth. I had a fiberglass guy look at it and he said it would take about 40hrs. to fix. He suspects the glass has cracked under the chainplate so he would have to cut it out and essentially reshape the bow of the boat. The cost would be about $2800. Does this sound reasonable to anyone. I have absolutely no experience with this type of repair. Thanks for your help. Eric

Second opinion

I'm sure this can be repaired stronger than new. But I would seek an opinion from the best fiberglass expert I could find on the proper techniques for ensuring the strength of the repaired bow. To be honest, the price sounds high to me, but that's why I would involve a second opinion. We paid 1,100 for a complete rebuild of our mast step, which did include lot's of layers, but was a simple shape. Good luck, David Lady Lillie
