I have a VC TAR Bottom Seal on my Boat and its topped off with VC17 every season. This year, after lightly sanding, some of the Gelcoat is starting to show. Can I apply New VC Tar to the area, or does all of the remaining VC17 have to be removed to Bare Bottom.

VC 17

my best guess is you would have to remove the VC 17, but you could contact Interlux for the correct information. They were pretty prompt when I had questions.

VC Tar

Generally VC tar is applied as a barrier coat which includes about five coats. You'll need to do a lot of sanding to insure the VC 17 and teflon ae gone. Sanding is necessay to get tar to stick to itself after it cures. Sounds like there isn't much tar on the bottom already so it will not be effective as a barrier coat. Consider painting with just VC17 and forget the tar until you are ready to do a full bottom job. I found interlux 2000 to be superior to VC tar
