Bottom painting

Does the entire weight of the boat rest on the keel and the bunk boards keep the boat from tipping? I want to paint the bottom of the boat on the trailer. I was thinking of supporting the side of the boat and then dropping the bunk enough to paint under the bunk. Thanks for your help

Correct, maybe.

If the boat has a fixed keel then your assumption is correct. Not true for my old Catalina 22 swing keel where the bunks ran fore to aft and supported the hull. But my H37C sits solidly on its keel when in the cradle and I would lower each support one at a time to paint under them.

Not quite correct, actually...

Assuming that your trailer is on perfectly flat ground, and that your bunks are properly adjusted, and that you have your boat centered on the trailer, you should have about 90% of the load on your keel. If you can support the hull completely and carefully, you can lower a bunk and paint above it. I do it every two years.

i did it slightly dfferent

I used some cinder blocks to get almost to the level of the botat and ran a long 4x2 along the bottom. I lowered one side at a time then used a floor jack to jack it back up on the bunks. takes a little longer since you can only do one side at a time but hey not bad!

I use the Mike Kenny method too

and it works beautiful. I only used two 4x6's however, positioned towards the rear of the boat by the aft bulkhead. Using ratchet straps will keep the supports in tighter, and it was steady as a rock. I would not try using just the bow eye either.
