Bottom Painting

I just bought my '83 Oday 22 last season, love it, spends 8 months in the water a year. Previous owner bottom painted every year. I just pressure washed off all of the algae, and found there to be 2 layers of paint. I know it was an antioxidant or antifouling as it would rub off on you if you touched it. Question is...I have a couple of spost where I went through to fiberglass -- do I need to sand/clean all paint off? What would be a good paint to use here off the coast of NC (saltwater and brackish). Also, is lt. blue or blue bottom paint a standard color? ANY and ALL help would be greatly appreciated! Jonathan

What do you mean when you say that you went through the fiber glass? This does not sound good. You need to barrier coat if you blasted through to the roaving. This is not rocket science, but is very temp. sensitive. If you do not see the weave of the fiberglass then perhaps you are ok. Sand the bottom with a 60 grit random orbit sander and bottom paint. Next time you haul out the tale will be told, to wit, osmotic blisters,or not. If not, OK: blisters, check the archives.Plenty info. Hope this helps
