Recently hauled 1988 Catalina 30 had a few teeny-tiny hull blisters and 6 layers of blistered bottom paint plus a barrier coat. Now stripped to the gelcoat and the advise I'm being given is to NOT reapply the barrier coat, just apply Petit no-sand primer followed with two coats of Trinidad SR, launch and haul again in two years. Looking foward to lively and conflicting responses........

Barrier Coat

Scott, You probably got good advice about not applying another barrier coat right away, but I'd definitely take a different approach. If you have a barrier coat & still get blisters, then your hull isn't dry enough. The ultimate solution would be to fully dry the hull out, re-apply another barrier coat, apply bottom paint & launch. To give up on the barrier coat altogether, in my opinion, is going to almost guarantee the reoccurance of blisters in the future. If it were me, I'd get a 2nd opinion. If they concurr with what I'm saying here, you might want to take some time to do it right & permanently fix this problem. I hope this helps. Allen Schweitzer s/v Falstaff C-30 Hull# 632
