We purchased our 2010 Beneteau 31 in Sept 09 and it was in the water for two months and then in the water all of last season. We sail in the ocean along the NJ coast. Is it time to bottom paint the boat for the coming season, or should the interval for bottom painting be longer?

It would depend on what paint and how often/where you sail. Here on the Chesapeake Bay, I use Micron Extra and have gone 2 years between haulouts, and the paint still looks good, though some slime. I could probably go another 6-12 months if I really had to. You might have a diver clean off the slime and check the paint (and the zinc while he's down there), and he could advise you if you need painting. If hauled out now, maybe go ahead and paint. If not hauled out, wait until fall to see how the paint is, then you could base your future scehdule on what you find.`

Did you have them put a multi year on when you bought her or was it bottom painted already? If you had them put a fresh coat of multi year paint on you should be fine for another year. If it's not a multi year then you should paint it this spring. BTW they typically use a single season paint unless you request otherwise.

That is exactly what turned out to be the case. The boat was delivered with the bottom already painted and they used a single season paint. Thank you, Mike, for the tip.

Looks like you'll need to paint your bottom this spring then :) Have fun with it.
