I have a new 2007 Hunter 25 and am getting ready for the spring launch. I would like to save a little money this spring and was considering painting the bottom myself. Does anyone have any suggestion how to paint the bottom on the trailer. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Take It Off

I would take it off the trailer some place like your yard or driveway. Just put down a tarp under it and put off the ground on blocks just leave room to paint under it,try painting half at a time with the bow on trailer and than completely off with more blocks.

If you have access to lifting equipment

I used a 4 inch strap and a backhoe to lift one end at a time and paint. You could also use a lifting frame and a hoist rated for at least 4000 lbs if you only lift one end at a time. I don't think I would try using jacks and blocks, that puts alot of load on a small area

painting

I used to own a Mac 26S and painted it on the trailer twice. I built a sturdy sawhorse out of 4x6's. I put the tounge of the trailer as low as I could get it and measured the height of the stern of the boat. Then built the super saw horse with a type of cradle on top of it that was the same shape as the hull. I then left the front of the trailer hooked to the bow eye and put the sawhorse under the boat. next I jacked up the tounge and the boat came a few inches off of the trailer. It was enough to be able to paint the bottom sides in most spots. When I was done I let the boat back down and finished the spots that I missed. The boat was never in danger of falling to the ground because the trailer was still under it. It worked good and saved me alot of money on a lift.

You don't need any extra equipment

I had a Mac 25 when I was just starting out. I kept it on the trailer and painted as much as I could. I let it dry. then I backed it into the water as if I was going to launch. I let it dry. I then shifted the boat so that the unpainted sections were exposed, and painted them. Dry, relaunch, straighten boat out on trailer. DONE!
