Bottom Painting on a Trailer

I'd like to save a little money this year and bottom paint my Hunter 260 while it's still on teh trailer.Has anyone tried this? If the swing keel will support the weight, then I can lower teh side supports (one at a time) and paint under them.Any other thoughts??

Try boat stands

I bought two boat stands to hold the boat when I drop the rails. I place the two stands along the side of the boat where I drop the rail. Then I would paint the rail area and when I raised the rails back to the resting position, I would remove the boat stands and paint where they were.

Don't know anything about a 260 or the swing keel, but I followed the plan/picture posted by an H23 wing keel owner when I painted the bottom of my h23. Worked brilliantly. Completely sturdy. Just couldn't paint the bottom of the keel, but I figure that keel will still be here long after I'm gone. Mac,Your solution is very practical. You braced it essentially the same way the yard braces mine when it is hauled, the only difference is that they use pre-engineered jac stands to do the same thing you did.As an aside, I would not recommend trusting just the keel balance and attachment at the front as you speculated in your picture caption. Not sure about that??

I am not sure that the 260 will support its weight on the retracted keel.Will be interesting to see what Crazy Dave says!

paint around

For the last few years I have painted around the boards. If you are going to support it with something I wold do it at the sling points. ct
