It is time to paint by bottom. The last time I did it I lived in an area that had plenty of yards and lifts. Where I am now near Charlotte it will be expensive. I have heard about people getting a C22 off the trailer and bottom painting and I would like to giv it a try in my driveway. Any one out there with a small boat done this before? I would love some hints, pictures, and websites! Thanks Art

I used to do it

Jack the trailor up even. Block the boat up. Then lower the trailor down. Paint the boat on top ot the trailor. Raise the trailor back up, take the block away and lower the boat. Be careful suporting the boat. It is a good idea to support the keel and around structure bulkheads (if you have them).

Art, If you want I can send you the pictures of what I made and used to take my boat off the trailer. It had to be off for several months so I didn't want any oil canning of the hull.

bottom painting ala trailer

I did it to my C-22 years ago. Use a floor jack and a big 4x4 to lift one side of the boat clear of the trailer and put some big blocks of wood on the bunks, three of them. Do the same with the other side. Paint. Remove the blocks from one side at a time, using a piece of wax paper between the raising block and the new bottom paint. Paint the bare spots, do the same with the other side and get it into the water as soon as you can.
