bottom painting aluminum??

Just bought a new AB ultra light Aluminum Rib dinghy, now wondering if I need or should bottom paint the hull ?? :confused:

If fouling is a problem then you may need to paint but you must not use copper based antifouling paint. There are serious corrosion problems involved.

Will it be stored on dry land when not in use or will it lie afloat? For the relatively short times in water if you keep it ashore, like most other tenders, you probably won't need any hull paint.

Beautiful dink! They used to come painted but I guess they leave them natural now. That dink will go too fast for anything to grow on it. As long as you don`t leave it sitting in the water all the time.

Yeah, that IS a nice boat. And no, I wouldn't paint it. Myself, I would have it rubbed off in a week sand-barring it. And it's easy enough to clean up otherwise. And by the time you end up scuffing it enough for anything to stick well, the anodizing would be corrupted.

That's just me though..
