My point

As a former user of VC 17, perhaps makingthyme could stay with the paint he is familiar with.

RE: My point

My guess is the new boat already has Micron CSC on it. Why else use such an expensive paint? Interlux recommends a hard sanding before using VC-17 and I think it IS NOT WORTH IT! There is NO ADVANAGE FOR VC-17 for the average sailor. I would stick with the paint on the boat. If it had VC-17 on it, I would remove it, but I sail in salt water and dislike the paint for crusing! If I were a racer I would use VC-17 with out a doubt! I would spray and wet sand it too. Ok, maybe just wet snad it!

Thanks For all the info

Rob, As you know from past posts, I'm not a WM fan. Nothing against you. But right now, money is money. You said that the WM brand is compatable with the Micron CSC Which paint are you talking about? I might give it a try. Waffle, You said no need to repaint the whole boat. So I could just touch up where needed? The bottom job was fesh before last season.

Makingthyme

Makingthyme- WM equivalant is called PCA. Drive 22 miles south to Oshkosh. Everyone of my employees are sailors and own boats that are all in need of fixing. We have all been thru the issues that occur on boats. Lots of sailboat and maintenance product that is priced great. Rob Hessenius

Waffle- I do understand your stance against VC-17 for boaters in saltwater. Practical Sailer did not rate it highly in their Florida or Connecticutt tests. I am in fresh water, but have expierence in a saltwater enviroment of Florida. I would put VC on a racing boat that was lifted out on a need to use bases. What you seem to think is that VC-17 advantage is only to the racer. There are many other pro's that us freshwater boaters gain by using VC. Virtually no build up, extremely fast drying, quick launch capabilities, hard trailerable surface, less product used versus conventional paints, and it seems to keep the crud and zebra mussels of our boats for our short seasons up here. I have VC on my boat and I race and I suck at it too, but its about getting out and doing that I enjoy. The extra speed that is gained can all be lost by one bad tack. But for 99%, it's not about the gained speed in racing, more so for the speed and ease of application and launching. In the Midwest we usually have a small window of when you are able to work on your boat till the time able to launch. Who wants to waste it on the hard. Good Day. Rob Hessenius
