I am a new owner in Boston, and need to decide on a bottom paint. I do not have a home for her yet (a hunter 33.5) but I need to decide on a bottom paint. The dealer suggests an abladive(sp?)type of paint. Does anyone have any experience with this, and any suggestion for what type of paint will work best in Boston Harbor, most likely in the Quincy to Hingham area. Thanks Again

ablative paint

all of the major paint manufacturers produce this type of paint in a variety of colors. You can easily purchase a gallon at most marine chandelrys. You may need a little more than a gallon for a 33' boat. Remember to lightly sand the bottom and old clothes and latex gloves. good luck

Ablative advantages

1. Washes off over the course of a season. 2. Eliminates pesky build-up. 3. No need to sand off old paint (washed away). 4. Comparable protection to hard paint. 5. Won't wash away despite monthly diver clean.

Bottom Pain

Hi Mark Congratulations on buying a 33.5. We have a 1991 and she has been a wonderful boat. As for paint....Interlux has a website at www.yachtpaint.com/usa/ which is very informative. Good luck and happy sailing.
