VC17-speed? response

I've used VC-17 ever since they outlawed Micron 44 with Tin. If there is a speed increase, it is very little certainly not 1/2 knot. It does have several advantages though. It does not build up over time. If you ever had to remove several layers of old bottom paint, you would certainly appreciate this very much. Just bought another boat and was looking for one that had been using VC-17 and plan on using it in the foreseable future.

Epoxy Under the Paint

I used Interlux 2000E, and the boat still blistered. Catalina fixed the boat, as they say they had a bad batch of Vinyl Ester...but I still believe that 1) had the Interlux 2000E lived up to their theories, and promised performance - the boat should not have blistered, and 2) I think the Interlux actually made it worse. The bottom was replaced, and I'm not using any barrier coat this time. I'm using VC-17 on top (it is real good in fresh water).

Just Finished Today

I have used VC-17 for the last 5 years. Only 2 hours work for minimal prep and painting for a 30'. We are in freshwater and it seems to help a lot with the zebra mussels. There is no buildup at all as with some other types of paint. Very simple to do - if the weather cooperates. Nice day today and we got it finished, but snow predicted for tomorrow. Oh well who cares. I still launch in 12 days which means Spring is here!
