I just had my 23.5 put on the hard. I did not want to put it on the trailer to paint the bottom after reading what others here have done. However, when the boatyard pulled my boat, the water ballast valve had more mussels growing on it than anywhere else. The boat reside in saltwater all the time and the bottom paint is presently VC Offshore. The ballast valve was never painted. I put the boat on the trailer last spring to clean the bottom. I am repainting the bottom with Ultima SR. My questions. What can use to stop growth on the ballast valve? Can I use the Ultima SR? What have others done? I have posted a photo. Thanks in advance Dave Simply Magic Olympia WA

Dave, The owners manual for the 23.5 shows

the bottom plate of the ballast tank valve being made of Stainless Steel. You should therefore be able to paint the metal portion of this plate. Just be sure not to get paint on the rubber gasket or into the sealing area where this rubber gasket fits into. Ray S/V Speedy
