Has anyone experienced this problem? After using random orbital sander to prepare bottom of my O'Day 26 for painting, I waited two days before returning to yard to apply paint. Unfortunately, I had not noticed the extent of fine paint residue that had landed on the topside. It seems a heavy dew, and possibly light rain, caused the fine dry paint residue to dissolve and stain the deck. The stain is impervious to any househod cleaner (i.e., Clorox Clean-Up, etc.) It can be removed using Mary Kate Deck Cleaner, but the process is extremely time-consuming. The stain is not readily apparent on the non-skid surfaces, but very obvious on the rest of the deck. Is anyone willing to admit they had similar problem and, if so, can anyone offer recommendations? I do not doubt paint thinner or acetone would remove the paint stain, but would most likely damage gel-coat. Thanks, Bruce C.

I once removed anti fouling paint from the bottom of an O'day Daysailer using star brite polish. I scraped the bulk of the bottom paint off then finished the job with the polish. I don't know if that brand polish will affect the deck if you wish to paint it at a later date. Eric

I did the same thing this spring, washed the bottom after sanding and not the deck. After a light rain the deck was badly stained. I tried several things to try to clean it. Soft scrub seemed to be the best. Oxalic acid also seemed to help. I didn't have time to work on it very long, and the next time I got up on deck it was raining again (we have had alot here in MA) and the deck had no stain, until it dried again, but the stain was not as dark. Every time we got rain the stain seemed to disappear, but came back when the deck dried. Now there is no sign the deck was ever stained. Our monsoon spring was good for something. I hope you find that the same thing happens, either by rains or several washings. Good luck

Try cleaning the paint residue off with some fiberglass refinishing product. I use a procdut called renew, it s made for cleaning stainless cteel and fiberglass. If that is not available then try a cream hand cleaner with a mild abrasive. A product called Fast orange is a good hand cleaner that works great to clean the fiberglass and it is cheap. Fiberglass products are expensive.
