Bottom Paint question

The bottom of the P23 I bought last spring is painted with a textured, heavy duty paint. P.O.
said it was on the when he bought it. Why in the world would someone paint a bottom with that? Has to be detrimental to performance.. Protection from trailer beating/bumping?

It's hard to see in the photo, but do you know where the boat was previously? If it's ablative, some folks lay that in with a 3/8-1/2" roller. Leaves a textured finish that smoothes with sailing.

Sand it off and repaint with a good quality multi-season ablative....

Is that a color pic? If it's color I could almost see that as being an epoxy barrier coat with no anti-fouling pain on top of it.

I would have to agree,I put on 6 coats( 3 coats of white and 3 coats of grey) of epoxy barrier piant on my 25.5 hunter. Then 2 coats of blue anti fouling.

It is a color picture, taken with my phone, not a good camera. The hull is kinda off white, the bottom paint is a little lighter in color.

I dry sale this boat, just launch when we go out, won`t be overboard full time.
The P.O. had it in this same marina, (6yrs) I`m gonna see what they might have in their records also. He wasn`t a "do it yourself" type.

Hey Dave,

how's it going? Are you thinking of repainting? I had good luck with Hydrocoat. Easy on, lasts several seasons, hard for trailering.

15 days to BVI. I'll be sure to post pics to make you sap. What are friends for?
