Bottom paint over a barrier coat

My bottom paint, Vivid, is worn enough, I can see a lot of the barrier coat showing through. I keep my boat on a lift and only leave it in the water during regattas. Does the barrier coat require protection? Can I just continue to sail with the barrier coat?

The whole idea of epoxy barrier coat is to protect the hull from blistering for the most part. However, you state the boat is kept on a lift and then the issue is mute. The only time that the boat is left in the water for any length of time is minimal. Therefore, I would personally not do anything as the boat for all pratical purposes is in the water to sail only and then lifted out. If you are in salt water, I would wash off the hull and if over a week, barnacle build up is possible unless you keep it clean and there are solutions for short term protection to keep barnacles from attaching.

That's what I thought but didn't know if I would damage the barrier coat. I'll let it go until we start making longer trips or leaving it in longer.

I do not think most barrier coatings are UV stabilized . You better check with the paint manufacture. If you are going to be dry sailing . To be safe I would use a water based bottom paint that's suitable for trailering. This should protect the barrier coat from UV rays and also give protection when boat is left in the water for short periods of time. I used a water based bottom paint over a micron barrier coat for my Mac 26 back in the day . It was very easy to maintain . Weather it needed touching up . Or weather it needed removal. It was very easy to wet sand off.
