What is the detriment to not bottom painting for one season? I purchased my boat in August and was assured the bottom had just been painted in June with multi season ablative paint. It's out on the hard right now and the marina owner told me I need to paint every time I have her stored on land. It is a 1984 Catalina 25 swing keel. My real reason for asking is because of budget constraints. I had planned on bottom painting her and set aside the money.
BUT I have been reading more and more about the keel cable snapping and the keel smashing down and sinking the boat. This has got me worried because I don't know the integrity or age of the existing keel cable. Herein lies my problem. I can only afford to either paint her or replace the keel cable at the moment so do I pay for the peace of mind knowing the cable is a new one or do I repaint the bottom??
Is it a major issue if I "skip" a season of paint? I do know it's a major issue if the cable let's go.
Thanks in advance for your advice.
