Bottom Paint on the Trailer

One photo showed a block on the back of the bunk board with nothing in the middle. I saw that often and then I would see the hull depressed in at the blocks. Please inspect your hull to make sure that is not happening. On the cable affixed to the bow eye, keep it loose but always attached if using that trailer for balancing or boat sitting on the trailer partaially. Good point about the keel cable being kept loose if resting the weight of the keel on the keel tray. Just be safe sir. There is only one of you.

One suggestion for Bad Obsession, you shouldn't work on the boat while it is on scissor jacks. Get a set of jack stands and set the boat down on them after you jack it up.
Good point Tom, On first glance the jacks look pretty stout but after re-examining it occurred to me that the base pivot point is suject to tipping.

Guys....the boat is on the scissor jacks, true enough. The wood blocks were to keep the boat from moving side to side....Safety only. I only jacked it up about three inches, enough to barely get the brush in there.

The scissor jacks are on a 2x6 that was leveled out pretty well. They really didn't have too much motion and the blocks were a safety thing. No weight was put on the 2x4 blocks as they were too light and too small for them to be safe.

The other thing is that there are keel guides and I didn't go any higher than the keel guides. This means that the jack couldn't move much. I also cut the 2x6 blocks that went between the keel and the jack to the exact width of the space between the keel roller brackets. The wood never got higher than the brackets (one more thing to steady the boat up).

Yes, loosen the bow strap. I usually loosen it when the boat is kept on the trailer over the winter but I gave it a few inches of slack so the bow could move while I jacked the boat up.

Trust me, I was very leery of this task. It was nerve wracking. Once it was done I felt safe and made sure that it was safe before doing work to it.

Oh...Dave. The boat normally rests on the keel rollers. MOST of the weight sits on the keel rollers. As I understand very little weight goes on the bunk boards, they are just to steady the boat.

Bad Obsession;

I am glad to hear you are safety minded as I have seen so much over the years where safety was ignored. Previous I was an investigator for an insurance company in SW VA, eastern KY and southern WVA which included going into the mines, road construction, structure fires and so forth. When it comes to children and scouts around the water, I will never compromise on safety!!!!!! As a dealer, I was safe and in all the years, not one workman's compensation claim was ever filed. I am glad to hear you are safety minded.

One of the things that I am involved with is Crash Reconstruction. That practice makes you think of every possible thing that can happen. I have seen some horrible things so I understand the importance of safety.
