Bottom paint on the hill. How soon/late before I splash?

I've gotta end this debate once and for all. I'm getting too many conflicting theories on how soon, or how late to bottom paint. I've got a bunch of W.M., (Pettit), ablative CCP+ that is probably going to go on this boat, and I'd like to get it on now. The boat will probably get kicked in the creek around April-ish, and I've heard to wait until the last day or so, and others say it doesn't matter, do it now. (Salt water).
Consensus?

Read the instructions as that is the best solution, but generally speaking, you should be able to launch the next day after a paint job and not the same day unless it is VC 17. You can launch it right after you put on the last coat.

With ablative, you can wait months between painitng and splashing, with hard epoxy its best to splash within a week or so of painting.

If my experience with CPP is any indication of what you will see, sell it on craigslist and buy WM PCA Gold / Petit Ultima SR. PCA/Ultima is 1000% better than CPP, and won't turn anything (including you) that gets near your hull while in the water a nice shade of blue (or whatever color your bottom is), plus it will last more than 6 months!

Whoa, whoa. Lets back up here. What exactly are we referring to as hard epoxy?

And one more thing. CCP is OUT! Now I've got PCA Gold. I don't care if it costs a thousand dollars, I don't intend to have to fool with it again this year..

Chris,

Will you be painting the Cat 22? Will it be trailered or launched and retrieved in the fall? If you will strictly trailer it, I'd use Easypoxy or something of that nature, if you can. It's fine for up to 7 days submerged (IF . . . my memory serves) and will wear better on a trailer. If not, just look for a multi-season paint and don't worry about it. The problem with the others is the biocide leeches out and becomes less effective over time. If it's a multi-season paint, the leeching is a little slower. I used Hydrocoat and have had good luck with its durability but since I am a trailer sailor, I know nothing about its effectiveness.

At any rate, post pics when you're done.

No, this isn't the 22'. I should update that profile, I did that last year or so when I was refitting that little trailer boat. It was the first time I've ever went to a sailing site for advice on the specifics of that particular boat. I'm probably going to have to sell the Catalina. Too many other bigger boats.
This one is an Ericson. I don't think I've ever brought it up specifically on this site, I tried very hard to keep these boats separated when I was posting on the 22' board, and then I gravitated to "Ask All Sailors". The Ericson has been on the hill all year, it is "this years project", and now I'm fast tracking it to the creek, by a direct order from the Supreme Authority. And so it shall be done.
I've been shopping hard for a 40', to 50' footer, (again), to replace this one on the hill. I have to keep a project. (Please help find me a project boat)!!

Sorry for the convoluted reply. But the long answer is, this one will be in the water for awhile..

(Anybody in the market for a C22, let me know).

And I will post some pics here directly. As usual, I've taken a hundred during this recomm.
