I just purchased an '86 H23 Saturday. Is there a barrier coat or special bottom paint required for the keel. I'm concerned about electrolysis between the iron keel and copper in the paint. Thanks. Brian

Keel Paint

It was recommended to me to use Interlux (360r)"Primocon." This is a underwater primer for use with antifouling paint. This spring was the first time I used it so I can't comment how it worked but the recommendation was from a reliable source.

Respectfully disagree...

...with Tom's post. Primocon will probably work, but I think there's a better solution. If you search the Forum Archives on this site, I posted a step-by-step article about how to paint a H23 keel last (March? April?). The title of the post (and easiest search term) was "Interlux's Solution". I also posted the approximate cost of materials in that thread. I didn't include haul-out or yard bill prices, but I will be posting photos to the Photo Forum soon with those details. You can also go to Interlux's home page (http://www.interlux.com) and check out their boat painting guide- It will give you a good idea about how to proceed with this project. Enjoy your new boat! We have really enjoyed our H23. --Jon Bastien H23 '2 Sheets to the Wind' H25 'Adagio'

No luck

Jon, I searched for the post you mentioned, but had no luck finding it. Any suggestions? Brian

Easiest way to find it...

Brian, I selected 'Search this Site' from the pull-down menu in the Forum page; In the 'Forum Archive Search' box, enter the words "Interlux Solution" and select the "Match All Words above" button. The only article in the left hand column of the results page should be my H23 keel painting post. If you still can't find it, I'll re-post here... --Jon Bastien
