I'm sailing Texas to Miami / Ft. Lauderdale this winter. I'm relocating. My boat is due for a bottom job. What do you reccommend? Some areas have certain types that just seem to work better. The yard I use here likes regular ole, "Bottomcote". Thank you, marc

We moved our 42 from Texas to the Keys in 1999 and getting ready we asked around also. We ended up putting ablative paint, specifically ACP60, on her. We used one coat of black followed by two coats of blue with an extra two coats on the leading edges of the appendages and stem and just at the waterline. Works great stays really clean and when the black shows you know it's time to touch up or repaint. You can paint over the remaining paint after pressure washing. We repainted with a single coat just for good measure this summer when I hauled out to have spurs attahced.

antifoul paint for S.E. Florida

Marc I live in the area and have had good luck with these two. Trinidad - lasted 2.5yrs; Micron CSC - 3yrs. In each case I was snorkeling and cleaning the bottom periodically for the last year.Trinidad is a hard epoxy and needs lots of sanding before reapplying. CSC is an ablating paint -- wears off and needs minimal work to repaint. Henry

Bottom Paint

Every boat I know of in my marina on the west coast of FL uses Trinidad. I have my boat bottom cleaned every month by scuba diver it has been on3 yrs. Going to paint again in a few weeks.

Trinidad SR

Marc, We have both of our boats (soon to be just one) in the north end of Key Largo. The O'25 is well into her third year with the standard Trinidad and no major problems. Our marina does not have much of a barnical problem, but we grow championship slim and weed at certain times of the year. I launched the new to us O'28 in mid July with the SR version of the Trinidad and so far not the first sign of any growth at all. Welcome to South Florida. The sailing's great. PM

Much easier to re-apply. The Trinidad works great but when it comes time to repaint you'll be cursing the sander.
