I have the bottom painted every year on my 2001 290 and wonder about all that build up of paint. I here how some guys are trying different ways to strip paint off the bottom after years of painting. My bottom looks so good at haul out every year,I change color every year and it still has only one color showing. The yard use micron csc last year and I am thinking of painting every other year to keep the build up down,I know this paint wears off but I used the green last year and you can't see the blue from year before, will it lose its affect. I will touch up wear marks on the keel from groundings. nick

RE: Micron CSC

...is an ablative paint meaning it wears away like a bar of soap. Unlike hard paints that leach out their biocide and then are ineffective as bottom paint, CSC is always affective as long as it is present on the boat. That's the beauty of this product, you never need to remove it. Hard bottom paint is useless as a biocide after one year and so needs to be painted over. After a few years you wind up with many layers of paint that are useless against bottom growth.

The only way it will build up

is if you put the ablative paint on faster than it sloughs off.....Don't sweat it. The boat's only three years old for cryin' out loud!

CSC is a GREAT

bottom paint. I used it for years on the Chesapeake. Left in water for over 2 years at a time and after haulout and blowoff, it could have been put back for additional service. To remove and paint after 1 year, when not needed, only keeps the boat yards profit margin up. Good luck with your 'new' boat.
