Bottom in great shape

On October 25th I had my boat out of the water for a short haul; boat left in the slings during lunch time for the dock crew.

Background: The bottom was painted in March 2021 with Trinidad Pro. Bottom cleaned by a diver in late summer 2021. Another short haul in March 2022 and another cleaning via diver in mid-summer 2022.

The bottom was nearly spotless! Some slime around the propeller and the thru hulls; maybe three small barnacles on the propeller. Gosh, Trinidad Pro works great in the mid Chesapeake Bay. Next spring I'll have the bottom painted again as I see no reason to push it past that.

How many coats? What is the typical frequency between bottom paint in the mid Chesapeake Bay? If it is longer than 2 years you for the number of coats you put on you might defer the haulout and bottom job. Might also talk with your diver on optimal bottom cleaning frequency for your sailing conditions.

I also use Trinidad Pro (2 coats) and repaint every 3 years in my location.

Glad to hear it works. I wonder though if what’s on there now has Irgarol and if new Trinidad Pro still does. I did a search for Trinidad Pro, and I could find some on clearance that says it contains Irgarol. What I find on Defender as a regular non-clearance item only lists copper as the active ingredient, no specific biocide. If that’s the case you might have more slime buildup in the future.

One good reason to push it past that is cost.

Trinidad is offering an 18 mo. warranty so it's got to be good for at least that and quite possibly much longer.

My current coat is a double coat of West Marine CPP Plus ablative. Its predecessor coat was seven years old. @Terry Cox brags that he got eight years out of his previous ablative coat.

Trinidad is the right paint for your area. Take advantage of that and leave it to do its job and when it finally starts to wear out, renew it.

I just ordered Trindad75 form JD Best price I found. Color I wanted. Free Shipping.

I'll let you know how it goes. Painting to start 7 November. Pettit says can be painted in 40º temps. I think the week is forecast to be above 40º. May have to delay splash as the paint needs to dry at least 16 hours. Splash currently scheduled for 12 Nov. Cross your fingers for me.

@Dr. D where did you get the bottom cleaned by a diver? So far as I know, they don't allow that at HH North. It would be a nice option to have.

HHN policy only applies within their docks and fairways. One time we anchored just beyond the T head of C dock. Another time we anchored outside the jetties.

For the first bottom painting I had two coats applied. After that, one coat as that appears to hold up well.
