Hi, I've had my 23.5 in a slip in Boston Harbor this summer and was curious if anyone had any tips for cleaning the bottom when it is pulled out in a couple of weeks. I'm particularly concerned about getting it thoroughly cleaned while sitting on a trailer??? Thanks for any pointers, Tim

Pressure Washer

If you can get the right PSI ( I used 30 PSI) it works miracles. Not to mention it really saves time. Make SURE you use a spray head that puts a wide spray out and not the one that uses a straight stream. Also test on rudder before hand, because you can take layers of paint off in a second. Just completed my bottom cleaning for this year. I have an H240 in a fresh water lake. I used Simple Green to get the Algae off, but needed to use Hydrochloric Acid to get the crusty brown water line and streaks off. Really is a lot of work - but she is lookin' good now!!! My problem is getting to the areas that are covered by the bunk rales of the trailor - any suggestions for getting under to this area??? Happy Cleaning - "Good Medicine" Charlie

Haul Out for Cleaning and Inspection

Tim, Our marina charges about $75-100 bucks to haul the boat and pressure wash it. I make sure I'm there when this takes place to inspect my swing keel and center board. It is so much easier to do this in the lift. They then put it on my trailer and set it aside for the winter. In the spring antifouling paint goes on the boat and me. Ok, mostly me! We have a vehicle to launch the boat so the expense of having it put in for us is saved. My Two Cents, "Festivity" H26

Have you checked with the marina. Were looking into changing marinas next year and found all the ones with winter storage will pressure wash the boat as part of the cost per foot of storage, haul out and put in next year. I was not aware of this when we purchased the boat as we kept in the same marina and thought the storage fees were only for storage. If you want to be there when they do this make sure they know or youll get there and itll be done allready. If you trailer you can take it to a car wash but you cant get under all the supports, sometimes its worth the cost over the hassle to have the marina do it.

bunk rale area cleaning

Charlie, I have a 260 also in a fresh water lake. Trailering the boat the 100+ miles home this year I noticed a pleasant surprise after reaching my back yard. The boat shifted slightly on the rales during transit, exposing the part of the hull supported by the rales. This probably occurred the last mile or so of the trip, as I live on a washboard dirt road. There were distinct clean, white-as-new outlines where the boat had evidently rubbed against the carpeted padding on the rales which must have scrubbed the hull clean in those spots. Self-cleaning where supported by rales! Wish the rest of the boat was that clean..

Bunk rale cleaning

Greg, I'll find a washboard road and give it a try. Perhaps one should soak the rales with Simple Green or other cleaner prior to loading. Thanks,
