I have oday 302 sail in Lake Michigan and use VC 17 as anti fouling, When pressure washing the bottom looks like some of the barrier coat is coming off. Can I just sand the spots down and apply barrier coat to the spots as a fix.

Yep. I rarely sand it down before touch ups. I did touch ups for 2-3 years straight on my last boat. When I finally recoated the whole bottom, it made a huge difference in the way it sailed!

Many sailors here in Canada have been doing just that with VC-17 for years but it has been outlawed here now. Only some paints will stick to it so some are having to sand the entire bottom down to use what they want.

I do the same with my VC17…sand around any flakes, and repaint.

I don’t know for sure what barrier coat was used. I found some notes in the boat history files ( from when purchased new). But that was almost 40 years ago!
