I just bought a 03 H260 which has bottom paint but was in fresh water. I will be docking my boat in very warm salt water. They say the water in the canal here gets up to almost 80 degrees in the summer. I would sure appreciate any suggestions on prep for the new bottom paint and what kind should I use for these extremely harsh conditions. I note the manual says no abrasives etc to be used on the waranty is off. I just picked up a new trailer from the Hunter factory in Florida. The trailer is galvanized of curse but I was wondering if I should paint it too. I note most do not paint the trailers but it seems like a good idea to me. Any suggestiong/comments. I'd use Trinidad SR paint
Red is the best because it has higher copper content. It's a favorite of long term cruisers that go to tropical destinations. I've never had good luck keeping paint on galvanized metal.

Don't paint the trailer
Tip, You sound like me and want to stay on top of everything and do it right. I wouldn't waste your time painting the trailer. However, I would strongly reccommend working your way around your trailer and replacing every nut, bolt, and washer with stainless steel. Chances are the bolts are only zinc plated and will rust. I sail on Vermillion Bay off the Gulf of Mexico over in Louisiana where I am exposed to a salt air environment. I have noticed in the past two years all the zinc plated nuts and bolts corroding and have systematically replaced them all. Just make sure you use the nuts with the nylon insert that locks it on to the bolt and make sure to buy some anti-seize compund to put on the threads. After sailig and haulling your boat out, take a garden hose and give your boat and trailer a fresh water washdown to get salt off your boat and trailer. Good luck, Jonathan Costello Heeling Powers

No Paint
Look for some galvinized paint in a spray can and use it to for touch up spots on any metal parts,like the spings and axle. Just give it a good rinsing off with fresh water when ever you use it in salt water,if your docking your boat,the trailer will last a longer time than trailering it every week. Also find what type of paint is on the bottom now and ask the locals what works best in your area. nick

Check with the Shrimpers
When I lived in Biloxi I used Petit Trinidad and found it to be much cheaper at a local chandlery that catered to the shrimpers out there. Another hint with the albative paints is to use a different color each time so when you bottom changes color you know it is time to paint again.
