Bosuns' chair went with old boat when I sold it. Now time to go aloft on new boat (C30 MKIII TRBS)so in the market for new chair. Your suggestions / preferences ? Jeff

Well, I use a climbing harness I got from REI

for for less than $50. Put a locking carabiner on, tie a loop in the halyard and aloft you go. Made 4 trips up a dockmates mast last Saturday & 3 trips up mine on Sunday, told him it proves I'm more organized.

Absolutely a harness!!

Way safer than a chair. Climbers wear them because they're better than anything else.....and you can't fall out of a harness the way you can a chair.

All C30 Tall Rig have a Bow Sprit!

If a C30 tall mast doesn't have a bow sprit, it was removed by a previous owner!

Yeah? But how was your back side after?

How was your backside after an hour in that harness? I hope you have healed, because I got new spreader boots yesterday. :) Dock mate.

Hey Mick; You are almost right. I had to remove my BS on my 96 C30 MKIII. Before I did, I called Catalina. They told me I was not plowing new ground, as they had made a few tall rigs without bow sprits at customer requests. I find no appreciable difference in sailing charactoristics. The boat is actually a little better balanced sailing an the genoa alone as the center of effort is a little farther aft. fair winds dave
