Has anyone tried to source Bosch brand batteries in the US to match those installed at the Bavaria factory? I am particularly interested in additional service batteries. My current ones are Bosch Heavy Duty 12 V 140 Ah units which are larger than group 31 batteries and smaller than 4D batteries. I've had no luck searching Bosch worldwide sites or various battery supply sites.

Even if...

you could find them it'always better to replace batteries, that will be in the same bank, with same size, type and age/date codes meaning purchased together at the same time.

Adding an "identical battery" to your existing battery is not advised if your existing battery is used and has some cycle life on it. Perhaps you could make the old one your new start battery and buy a new house bank?

Bosch tough to find in US

I was unable to find a Bosch replacement for my starter battery which died last winter. I replaced it with a similar sized Dekka, and had to adapt the mounting area to suit.
Try your boat dealer and/or importer - they may have one. Mine had 2 but both were sitting around for a while and essentially dead. Other choice is to have them import one for you with a new boat (to avoid ridiculous shipping charges for the battery alone).
When you figure this out - please post your solution here.

Battery Upgrade

I replaced 2 Bosch house batteries (for a total of 280 AH) with 4 Trojan Golf Cart batteries (for a new total of 480 AH) in the same space as the originals. I upgraded to add plastic battery boxes to ensure that any (hopefully not) future spills would be contained. It did require some modification of the battery hold down system.
The added capacity has proven very useful in meeting our electrical demands especially for the refridgeration and the new freezer the admiral wanted. A happy wife is a happy cruise. :D

If adding capacity, it is best to start with all new batteries of the same type and capacity. It is my understanding that if you add new to old, the old in essence "take away" from the new. Not a good idea.
Hope this helps,
Tom
