I'm not sure what that is. Would one tie off the main like it was a jib?

Jason you need a topping lift. Just put another turning block in the chicken head on top the mast and run a line. Its all I use and my pop top goes up all the way.
See in the first picture there is a line going to the end of my boom. Well I can adjust the line and raise or lower my boom with it. I usually just shove the boom to one side and don't worry about it.
In the last picture you see the attachment that holds the pop top to the mast.

I have plenty of room in the cabin. My boom connects to the mast and topping lift when not sailing, and mast and main sail under sail. :dance::dance:VLG & LOL.

He used a cleat shroud on the stay and had a small cable with a snap hook to the end of the boom.

I'm not sure that's going to get the boom out of the way in the cockpit. I have that on mine and it leaves the boom centered and in the way along with the sheet it's hard to work freely in the cockpit and get in and out of the companionway. I use a spare halyard as a topping lift and swing the boom off to the side. If you have enough rope, you could use your main halyard as a topping lift. Of course these only come into play until you are ready to sail.
Adding a topping lift is a good idea too because you could hoist a weak MOB into the boat with your sling or horseshoe too.

I have done just that. All you can do is fire the motor back up, turn into the wind, loosen the sheets and unhook it.
