I added a Boomkicker to my H26 this weekend and noticed that when I put tension on the mainsheet, it seems to reduce the tension on the lower shrouds. Anyone have a similar experience or know why this might be the case?

Maybe…

And I’m postulating here, the tension on the boommast joint the BoomKicker creates is reshaping the mast, therefore changing the shroud tension. When I installed my BoomKicker, it came with two sets of fiberglas rods – one smaller than the other. If memory serves me correctly, I used the smaller of the two.

The main sheet and boom vang apply force to the boom in the same direction(down). If you are able to loosen the shrouds with the main sheet(bending the mast) then your rig is far too loose. I would definitely take a Loos gauge to the shrouds and get a reading. Shrouds should be set very near 15% of their SWL. In some cases 20% is needed but certainly not any looser.
