I just purchased a boomkicker for my Hunter 23. I know there are a few of you H23 owners out there that have installed one on your boat. Question for you: Given how the H23's main sheet and traveler are rigged, do I really need a vang with the boomkicker?

You'll want it for downwind sailing. As long as the end of the boom is inside the boat, you'll be fine. once it gets past that, it will want to rise, and you can't pull it down without also pulling it in towards centerline.

the whole idea of a boomkicker vang combo is to fine tune sail shape. You definately want the two together.

Downwind on H23
As she was rigged from the factory, downwind sailing was always problematic. I've always run on a broad reach and jibbed if my goal was down wind. A vang would be nice on occasion. I think I'll pick one up. Any advice on what size vang to go looking for?
