Hi all,

Our 2000 Catalina Capri 22 came with a boomkicker that had a homemade plexiglass boom mount that fit around the extrusion that runs the length of bottom of the boom. The mount exploded on a couple weekends ago so I ordered the stock parts plus the pvc extrusion adapter from the factory. The parts arrived today, along with 3 mounting screws, but I can't figure out how I'm supposed to mount it.

Does anyone have the same setup? How do you mount the pvc adapter? Do you have to drill/tap the boom to one side of the extrusion and mount the adapter slightly off center? Or do the screws just hold against the ridge along the bottom of the extrusion?

The boat is moored an hour south of us and I really don't want to get down there and find out I need some tool I don't have with me.

Thanks!

Chris

hmmm

Why isn't yours a stock setup?
Shouldn't it look like this:

Did you buy it from BoomKicker?

If so, call BoomKicker Ted, he'll square you away:

Boom with ridge

Thanks for posting the pictures. My boom looks different than the one pictured but that's the fitting I bought. The prior owner apparently didn't have that, the piece that clamps on the end of the rods, or the pvc adapter for this style of boom

We went down tonight for a sail and it turns out the boom has a 1/2" x 1/2" extruded ridge that runs the length of the bottom of the boom. For some reason I thought it was about 2mm thick and shaped like an I-beam. Not the case. Now it's obvious that I've got plenty of space to drill/tap the mounting holes for the adapter & boom fitting. I just need to decide where to mount it so it won't interfere with the jiffy reefing lines/cleats.

Boomkicker

Thanks. I've been emailing him. He's been very helpful and gave me a great price on the parts. The adapter he sent just didn't look like it fit what I thought the ridge on the bottom of our boom looked like. Turns out I must have been smoking something because it's going to be a perfect fit.
