Dave,I have one on my 26, and it comes in handy when needed. When running downwind, I unclip the snap shackle at the base of the mast and attach it to the base of the forward stanchion. This does double duty as a 1) preventer, and 2) keeps the boom from lifting up to much. It's not a necessary piece of equipment, but one of many that helps.Ben AllenMontgomery, AL"Latte Dah"O'Day 26
