I would like to use 2 boom vangs rigged as preventers on my C-30. Not sure what size line I should use... 5/16, 3/8, 7/16. Any thoughts? Also seeing that my boat has no toe rail to attach to...where/how do you suggest attachment to the chain plates?

Preventer

I would guess that you could use 3/8" line, because with the multiple purchase, the line will be stronger than the blocks. As for attaching them to the chain plates, replace the clevis pins in the aft lower shrouds with SS "D" shackles of the same diameter. The preventer could then be attached to the shackle. Another way would be to use a pad eye which is bolted through the deck with a sturdy backin plate. The lead angles would be much better.

Boomvang

I would get a boom vang with a relatively light breaking strength so that the vang will break before your boom if your boom dips into the water. The strength is related more to the hardware than the line. I would go for one size under the size rated for your boat. Check with a rigger if you have any doubts.
